We hope you were watching last night’s football game, when the Broncos beat the Chargers and golf legend Phil Mickelson made a 100-yard shot worth $50,000.

Through the firm’s Family for Literacy program, our friends at KPMG are donating every penny of that $50,000 directly to First Book, putting 20,000 brand-new books into the hands of kids in need.

KPMG Chairman and CEO, John Veihmeyer, Phil Mickelson and First Book President and CEO, Kyle Zimmer

“Our friends at KPMG have stepped up time and time again over the years to help us get books to kids in need,” said Kyle Zimmer, president and CEO of First Book, who made the trip to San Diego to watch the game and the million dollar halftime shot. “Now, with some help from Phil Mickelson and that amazing shot of his, they’re helping us put 20,000 brand-new books into schools and programs in low-income neighborhoods across the country.”

“These books will make a huge difference in a lot of lives,” she said.

On behalf of the tens of thousands of kids who will read and cherish those books, we extend a heartfelt thank you to KPMG and Phil Mickelson. Nice shot!

You can help KPMG and Phil get books to kids by donating to First Book. Every $2.50 pays for a brand-new book for a child in need. Or you can show your support through KPMG’s ‘Blue for Books’ campaign; to learn more, visit philsbluehat.com.
