First Book corporate partner, dd’s DISCOUNTS, is kicking off its second annual in-store donation drive in support of youth literacy efforts just in time for back-to-school.
“It’s more important than ever to support school children in our local communities and help them experience the joy of reading their very own books,” said Alma Mercado, vice president of Stores, dd’s DISCOUNTS. “We’re excited to partner again with First Book to help raise funds that will support the communities we serve.”
Between August 14 and September 7, 2010, dd’s DISCOUNTS’ customers can make a donation at 57 store locations in California, Texas, Florida, Nevada and Arizona. A $2.00 donation, which can be made at store registers, will provide a brand new book to a child in the local community. dd’s DISCOUNTS will match donations, up to $25,000.
This week, to boost excitement and help dd’s DISCOUNTS’ team members connect with the cause, representatives from benefitting local programs spoke during store employee gatherings. “We did our presentation today at the North Highlands store. We are just as excited as dd’s DISCOUNTS employees,” commented Joyce Askia, representative from the Black Infant Health Program of Sacramento County. “They really have a heart to go the distance with this campaign.”
All funds raised will directly support youth literacy efforts in the surrounding areas of dd’s DISCOUNTS stores. “We’re delighted to continue our partnership with dd’s DISCOUNTS to provide even more programs in their communities with on-going access to new books. This donation drive will empower local educators with a choice of new, high-quality and age-appropriate books for the children they serve,” said Kyle Zimmer, President and CEO of First Book.
