A Call-to-Action: Post a Comment to Help Share the Magic of BEDTIME STORIES!

December 19th, 2008 by Diane N. · 783 Comments · Books & Reading

At First Book, we’re strong believers that every child deserves to know the magic of bedtime stories — and we know you are too.

Few movies celebrate that magic quite like Disney’s upcoming BEDTIME STORIES – an adventure comedy starring Adam Sandler as Skeeter Bronson, a hotel handyman whose life is changed forever when the bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to mysteriously come true.

In celebration of the film’s December 25 release, Disney Publishing Worldwide will donate up to 250,000 brand new books to First Book.

Will you do your part and share YOUR story?

Now through December 25, post a comment below about your favorite bedtime story or memory and, in your honor, Disney will donate one new book to a child in need – just for commenting!  It’s free, takes just a minute and will help make bedtime brighter for kids in need.

Thanks for your help — and don’t forget to buy a ticket on Fandango to see BEDTIME STORIES, opening in theaters December 25!

I loved all of the Little Golden Books and adored the Bobbsey Twins. When I discovered the first book, my Mother read every one to me. We also loved the Laura Ingalls Wilder series. I was fortunate to have a Mom who read to me every day!

At Christmastime with my boys: We started in early December with a chapter each night of A Christmas Carol. Also loved How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Polar Express and of course – the nativity narrative from Luke on Chirstmas Eve.

When I was a child there were no computer chips or fancy additions to books. My favorite book was a book of Grimm’s fairy tales and nursery rhymes with simple noises like beeping a horn and ringing a bell. My older sister would read to me and I would do the noises.

I loved reading Richard Scarry’s book, The Best Word Book Ever, to my boys. They loved identifying all the objects in the book and it helped them talk at a very young age. I enjoyed watching their enthusiasm. As a mom, reading was such a heartwarming experience to share with my boys.

I always loved Roald Dahl’s books as a child. My favourite was The Twits

Every night before bed my dad would read to me- sometimes one book, sometimes two. Over time I have realized just how important that was to our relationship, the development of my mind, and the blossoming of my creativity. It’s a ritual I’ve distinctly made myself aware of continuing.

My grandmother read us so many stories when we were little. I especially remember a book called “Best Book of Bedtime stories” and a lovely story about a brownie and a pony.

I don’t remember my mother reading to me, but I remember reading beneath the covers when I should have been sleeping! My fondest bedtime stories are those centering around reading to my own daughters when they were younger. Their favorite was Goodnight, Moon, and as soon as I was finished reading it, they would say, “Again!” Sometimes I read that book to them five times a night before they’d finally be satisfied.

I rented the movie when it came out, but didn’t have high expectations. Adam Sandler isn’t on my favorite actors list. However, I and my whole family enjoyed the movie.

  • Twins Mom

My twins loved the book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” where a caterpillar eats himself through lots of stuff, gets a bad tummy and converts into a beaufiful butterlfy in the end. I had the same book when I was a little girl and I loved it as well!

  • Hound Dog Lover

I loved the “Clifford the Big Red Dog” books when I was a kid. Great bedtime stories!

This article reminds me of little children before but sad to say, they’re older now. They won’t buy it anymore. But before, reading bedtime stories was became my hobby, I love searching children stories way back then. This is really, a-call-to-action article:)

I have been reading your posts during my afternoon break, and I must admit the whole article has been very useful and very well written. I thought I would let you know that for some reason this blog does not display well in Internet Explorer 8. I wish Microsoft would stop changing their software. I have a question for you. Do you mind exchanging blog roll links? That would be really cool!
