On Friday, First Book and KPMG’s Family for Literacy announced a sweet Halloween treat: a promise to bring more books to kids in need! In a kick-off event at the Franklin School in Newark, New Jersey, our very own Kyle Zimmer joined Newark Mayor Cory Booker and 36 KPMG volunteers and family members to read to the children and give each student a brand-new book to take home.
The KPMG Short Hills office regularly reads to students at the Franklin School, and these visits mean a tremendous amount to the children. One little boy was so thrilled to see the KPMG volunteers return to his school that he asked specifically for Debbie Duffy, since he remembered her reading to him the last time. Debbie is married to Tom Duffy who is the managing partner of KPMG’s office in Short Hills.
Mayor Booker motivated all in attendance by expressing, “All of you have that genius inside of you to be successful. The key is to be a good reader.” Mayor Booker added “if you want to be a leader you need to be a reader.”
To date, KPMG’s Family for Literacy has put more than 350,000 books in the hands of children in need. We would like to extend tremendous thanks to all of the dedicated KPMG employees and family members for bringing the joy of reading to so many children! We appreciate all you do!
