The Third Annual Cybils Awards

The Cybils Awards are Web awards for young adult and children’s literature. Through October 15, you can nominate a book in any or all of the nine categories (one nomination per person per category). Bloggers will choose the winners from your nominations. Check out the site to learn more about the awards and view past winners – and don’t forget to nominate a favorite book from 2008!

Turning Boys on to Reading

This piece discusses ways to get boys interested in reading and includes suggestions by popular children’s author Jon Scieszka.

The Future of Words

Dave Eggers, author of A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius and co-founder of 826, was named one of the 75 most important people of the 21st century by Esquire magazine. Contrary to popular opinion, Eggers writes that young adults today are, and will continue to be, avid readers.

The World’s Best Paid Authors

J.K. Rowling, unsurprisingly, tops this Forbes list. Long-time First Book supporter James Patterson comes in second. Visit this link to see who else made it on the list and to learn details about their earnings.
