More than 40% of New Orleans’ adults lack the literacy skills to understand basic government forms, making the application process for government assistance even more difficult. When Hurricane Katrina hit the city in 2005, 27 adult literacy programs were destroyed – only 13 programs survived.

The Scholastic mystery series plans to have ten books, each written by different authors, combined with online gaming and card collecting components.
