Right before the 4th of July holiday the Community Development team at First Book rolled up their sleeves and joined the NEA Student Program in their annual “Outreach to Teach” project. Though it was an early morning for us, we were thrilled to be joining over 300 education students, retirees, and other supporters to help renovate Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA.
The First Book staff split up among various tasks including updating the baseball dug-outs, numbering classrooms, organizing the media center and theater, and landscaping. We got plenty hot and dirty, but it was wonderful to have a chance to give back to the community and to meet some amazing educators in the process.
