Ireland sends new babies home with books

April 16th, 2008 by Keith R. · No Comments

Hello blog readers! I’m Keith and this is my first blog post. I’m originally from Ireland — Dublin City, to be exact — and I’ve been living in the USA now for three years. I work in the IT department here at First Book.

Today my dad, all the way from Ireland, emailed me this article, which talks about the Irish Government’s initiative to give babies born in 2008 a free book.

According to the article, “the book - Humpty Dumpty and other Rhymes – is to be sent in a gift box with a note from the Minister for Education Mary Hanafin welcoming the baby and congratulating the parents.” It’s exciting to see that the importance of early literacy is being recognized across the globe.
