Members from nine First Book Advisory Boards drove great distances and battled Jersey traffic to attend the First Book University – Jersey City Seminar on September 24th. They were welcomed by Bruce Springsteen on the iPod along with First Book staff members. There was a great level of enthusiasm throughout the day as volunteers asked many questions and garnered ideas from one another.
Lorenzo R., chair of First Book-Jersey City received a Hero Award for the dedication he has shown to his community as well as for helping to organize the Seminar.
Representatives from the following Advisory Boards attended the Seminar:
o Passaic-Bergen Counties (NJ)
o Cedar Crest College (PA)
o Hudson County (NJ)
o Orange County (NY)
o Atlantic County (NY)
o Wayne/Pike Counties (NJ)
o Millersville University (PA)
o Jersey City (NJ)
o Sussex County (NJ)
One of the highlights for the Heather, Elizabeth and I was getting a glimpse into the past of our First Book “boss”, James. James grew up in Brooklyn and spent the early part of his career in Jersey City. James showed us the fabulous view he used to have of the Manhattan skyline and we had the honor of having a Sunday night Italian dinner at James’ mother’s house. Truly the best First Book meal I’ve ever had!
Thanks to all for a great trip!
I’ve have been lucky enough to have meals at James’ mother’s house…usually some pretty good food.
I am so glad you enjoyed the Italian dinner. It was my pleasure. You are always welcome.
