In celebration of the Cheerios® Race for Books initiative, come join Donna Labonte, wife of racecar driver Bobby Labonte, and the Naperville community and take the First Book Speed Read Challenge!
The First Book Speed Read, presented by Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories®, is taking place at the Jewel-Osco located at 1759 W. Ogden Ave. in Naperville, Ill., on Saturday, July 14th at 11:00 a.m.
Participants in the First Book Speed Read are challenged to read as many words as possible from a children’s book in just 15 seconds. For every word read at the event, First Book and Cheerios will donate one new book to a local program serving children in need.
Come out and race your neighbors, family and friends and support the effort to provide more new books to children in need! Children from the North Lawndale YMCA will be in attendance to cheer on the participants and help determine the winner. Each child will receive a new book to take home and keep.
The event will not only help provide books to children in need, it will also stir up excitement for Sunday’s race at the Chicagoland Speedway! Through the Race for Books, Cheerios and First Book are donating 43 books for each lap that Bobby Labonte and his team complete during the 2007 racing season. If Bobby completes all 267 laps in the July 15th race at the Chicagoland Speedway, Cheerios and First Book will donate more than 11,000 books to children in the region.
Cheerios is helping get books to kids off the track as well, through the Spoonfuls of Stories program. Over the past 5 years, Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories has distributed more than 25 million books free inside boxes of Cheerios cereal, and donated more than $2 million to First Book.
Be part of the action — come join us for a First Book Speed Read challenge and help provide books to local children!

I’m very excited for this to happen, but I will be out of town. I live in Naperville and have volunteered in North Lawndale for three years. For how long will this event run?
