A few weeks ago, First Book attended Book Expo America (BEA), the largest annual book trade fair in the U.S., in New York City.

As part of the show, First Book featured the What Book Got You Hooked? campaign, and had ballot boxes throughout the show floor to encourage BEA attendees to tell us what book got them hooked and to vote for a state to receive new books from First Book.

I was lucky enough to be able to place these ballot boxes all over the Javits Center AND collect all the votes at the end of each exhilarating day AND count them! (With the help of my colleagues, of course!)

At the conclusion of BEA, the votes were collected and tallied. We received an overwhelming response — New York was selected by BEA attendees to receive a special book distribution for children in need.

Even if you weren’t able to join us at BEA, you can still participate in the What Book Got You Hooked? campaign by voting online. So, it’s up to you to determine the top books that got America hooked on reading and select the next state to receive 50,000 new books. Remember: vote early and vote often through July 31st!
