Idaho Adventure- Day 3

April 25th, 2007 by Erin T. · No Comments

Tonya poses in front of a bridge.Tuesday, April 24th-

7:30am PST- Coffee in hand, we leave our hotel in Lewiston ready for the drive down to Boise. Depending on who we asked, we were told it was a 7 to 10 hour trip, so we wanted to leave plenty of time for even the worst case scenario.

9:41am PST/10:41am MST- Heading South through Idaho we pass a bridge that acts as the line of demarcation between pacific and mountain time. We stop to snatch a picture, change our clocks, and to enjoy the amazing views of the mountainous pine forests.

A Sign Reading Mrs. G's Ranch House Restaurant.12:30pm MST- Our stomachs are telling us it is time to break for lunch, so we look around for a restaurant with a good number of locals parked in front (my criteria for road food). We found just the place, at Mrs. G’s Ranch House with classic travel/diner food on the menu. The fruit pies, with ice cream of course, were the highlight of the trip and as large as our heads… welll, almost. We left very full, but rested and content and ready for the road.

1:04pm MST- We realize that we have been on highway 95 much longer than we should have, and missed our turn-off somewhere about 60 miles back. We still got to Boise, but missed some of the gorgeous scenic views. I was told once that a true traveler always leaves a reason to return, so I’ll leave the road not taken for another day.

Erin at her computer on the hotel balcony, with a great view behind her.5:30pm MST- A wonderful dinner meeting with First Book-Treasure Valley. As one of our long standing boards, this meeting was a sharing of ideas. It is wonderful to sit back and hear the incredible plans that they have to reach even more children in the year to come. First Book-Treasure Valley has plans to keep themselves busy with an event at Día de los Niños and a Speed Read with the local hockey team. We can’t wait to hear of their progress!

7:30pm MST- We check into our hotel in downtown Boise to find that they don’t have the rooms we booked months ago available to us. They asked us if we would be okay with an upgrade to penthouse suites. After a long day on the road, Tonya and I take advantage of my suite’s private balcony overlooking the beautiful mountains of Idaho as we catch up on emails, and confirm tomorrow’s itinerary. (Sometimes business travel has its perks!)
