Last month, First Book held a Recipient Group contest which turned out to be a lot of fun! We asked our Recipient Groups to send us funny stories resulting from reading being a part of family and educational life.
It was a tough decision, but we finally decided on three winners to receive some exciting prizes! All participants coming in second place received a 5% discount off their next First Book Marketplace order. The three winning stories appeared in our April Recipient Group Monthly Update email, and the winning authors were granted a $100 credit for the program of their choice to use at the First Book Marketplace!
Congratulations to Dawn Wood, Kirsten Grubb, and Karen Wesley! Here are the winners:
Carrot Hunting
Once when my son Nathan was three and a half years old he came to me asking for a snack. I told him to go look for some carrots in the refrigerator. He returned a couple of minutes later and said, “I looked in the refrigerator and ALAS! I did not find carrots!” Alas isn’t a word we use in everyday language at our house, but you just never know the fun words kids will pick up when you read together!

The Storyteller
After reading several books to our three year old son Olson, he decided he wanted to tell us a story. He took a big breath and started, “Once uton a pine…”

Public Speaking for Kindergarteners
Billy, who was only four and a half at the time, loved reading and also loved going to Chapel in Kindergarten. He was about to read to his little brother and stood before a box with the book propped up on it. He then said in a loud booming voice: “A READING FROM THE BOOK OF DINOSAURS!!”
- Karen Wesley – South Central Perinatal Council, Lynchburg VA
Thanks again to everyone who entered. We really enjoyed reading your stories!
