We’re right in the middle of Deaf History Month, which goes from March 13 to April 15. It’s a little bit more than a month so that it can include three important dates in deaf history.
March 13, 1988, was when King Jordan became the first deaf president of Galludet University, a victory for the Deaf President Now movement. April 8, 1864, was the date that President Abraham Lincoln signed the charter for Galludet University. And April 15, 1817, was the day that The American School for the Deaf opened in Hartford, Connecticut.
