Wild Wild WolvesWild Wild Wolves, by Joyce Milton, illustrated by Larry Schwinger. Did you know wolves talk with their bodies? This book has great information about wolves and wolf packs, lots of interesting facts and clear drawings that bring them alive. Learn about wolf legends and what scientists have done to find out about this fascinating relative of our beloved dogs. “To a wolf, a howl is a friendly sound.” Grades 3-4.


Black StallionBlack Stallion , by Walter Farley. Alec is returning home on a steam ship from a visit to his uncle in India, but a horrible storm strands him on an island with the only other survivor – the Black, a wild stallion. Their relationship slowly grows over the weeks and through amazing adventures as they develop a true bond of trust. Rescued at last, Alex returns home where he finds a barn and friends for the Black. Soon the newspapers are full of stories about a national race to crown the best horse in the country. The Black is wild and unknown, but Alec and his new friend Henry believe in him. Can they possibly get him in the race? Grades 5-6.
