Black Stallion , by Walter Farley. Alec is returning home on a steam ship from a visit to his uncle in India, but a horrible storm strands him on an island with the only other survivor – the Black, a wild stallion. Their relationship slowly grows over the weeks and through amazing adventures as they develop a true bond of trust. Rescued at last, Alex returns home where he finds a barn and friends for the Black. Soon the newspapers are full of stories about a national race to crown the best horse in the country. The Black is wild and unknown, but Alec and his new friend Henry believe in him.
