The holiday season is upon us! For many this means time off from work and school, and a chance to catch up on some leisure reading. So, as you are waiting for your flight at the airport, cozied up next to the fire at home, or hiding from annoying relatives in your room, we’d love to here what you are reading this time of year!

Since Thanksgiving I’ve been reading holiday themed books, mostly mysteries and feel-good novellas. Right now I’m on “High Heels and Holidays” by Kasey Michaels and up next is “A Christmas Caroline” by Kyle Smith and “Santa Cruise” by Mary Higgins Clark. I’ll get back to more serious stuff in January!

I’ve actually taken a recent shining to a series of graphic novel collections called ‘Flight’. They are beautifully illustrated and feature either complete stories or excerpts from some of the industry’s rising talents. The general theme is around stories that, you guessed it, involve flight, though this is not a hard and fast rule.
It’s not your comic-book-store super-hero stuff either. Lots of variety and sampling from lots of different styles. I’ve only managed to snag Volumes 2 and 3, but am on the lookout for Volume 1. I would say it’s mostly kid friendly too.

This Christmas, some of my foreign friends surprised me with literature from their homelands. A German friend sent the English translation of the acclaimed new novel, “Measuring the World” by Daniel Kehlmann. I’ve just started, but already I’m engrossed in the time of the Enlightment and the following of two young Germans history calls Gauss and Humboldt as they explore, calculate and discover what we take for scientific fact in the world today.
For the return flight home, an Armenian friend gifted me “The Master and Margarita” a book by Mikhail Bulgakov (in English, thankfully!). I’m told that it’s a must read for anyone who has tried to live, work or study in the former Soviet Union.

I love fiction and just finished reading The Time Travelers Wife last night. An excellent read and the quickest 550 pages i’ve read in a long time. Right now I am thinking really hard what I’ll read over the long weekend…

Well, right now I’m reading a book by Karen Armstrong about the Crusades and their impact on modern conflict called “Holy War”, although it’s not exactly an easy read in noisy airports. So, I might go for my nightstand read (you know, the book I only read when curled up under the covers), which at the moment is “Emma” by Jane Austen. I’m sure I’ll stand listlessly infront of my overflowing bookcase for about an hour while packing my carryon before I finally settle on something that, aside from my 1.5 hour flight, I’ll hardly touch all vacation.
