Here is an idea for all you single readers out there! Next time you’re going on a date with someone new, and are looking for a safe, friendly, and fun venue, consider your local bookstore.
Like all good first date places, you can grab a cup of coffee and spend as much time as you like without being committed to a long outing. Instead of the usual “interview” nature of so many first dates, you’d be amazed how quickly you can find out about someone new just by seeing what books your date has read, wants to read, and is generally interested in. It is a great way to bring up the relationship “deal breakers” of religion, politics, and social values without ever having to ask. Imagine the potential for a second date, when you pick up the book that you have been dying to read, only to find out that he or she just finished it and would love to lend it to you!
Oh the possibilities….
My husband and I went to a Borders store on our first date. We returned there on the night that he proposed to me (after many visits in between), and we go there on each of our anniversaries… Of course, we end up buying books on each of these visits. Maybes bookstores should start to sponsor singles evenings! :-)
Mindy, what a great story! Thank you for your post. I am glad to hear that the bookstore can be a perfect venue well beyond the first or second date.
