First Book recently had the privilege of speaking with award-winning children’s book author Amy Hest, the highly versatile author of more than thirty books for young readers. Among Amy Hest’s books are Mr. George Baker, illustrated by Jon J Muth, and the beloved Baby Duck stories, illustrated by Jill Barton. This February, Amy’s newest book, Remembering Mrs. Rossi, a middle-grade novel about a girl learning to grieve, will be published.
Amy spoke about her unique approach to writing children’s books, the experience of seeing her characters come to life through illustration and the role that ice cream plays in keeping her going as an author! Be sure to listen in to hear all of my conversation with Amy.
I’d like to thank Amy for making herself available to speak with First Book, as well as Candlewick Press for coordinating this interview. Please check back every day this week for new podcasts in honor of Children’s Book Week.
