Have I Got a Book for You

November 10th, 2006 by Kumquat Tartlett · 1 Comment

Jewtopia: The Chosen Book for the Chosen PeopleOkay, so they didn’t go to law school. But with a successful off-Broadway show, a new book and a movie deal, Bryan Fogel and Sam Wolfson would make any Jewish mother proud.

Now on a book tour to promote Jewtopia: The Chosen Book for the Chosen People, Fogel and Wolfson bring wit, warmth and irreverence to their observations of Jewish life. From a synopsis of Jewish holidays (”They tried to kill us. We survived. Let’s eat.”) to their hilarious stories about Bar Mitzvah themes (yes, that is Bryan as a 13 year-old Don Johnson at his Miami-Vice party) to their R-rated guide to the Jewish Kama Sutra ( “The Challah” is definitely worth checking out), the book is a riot, and you don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy it. There is a commonality of experience here — much like “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” — that anyone with doting parents and a healthy dose of neuroses will enjoy.

But there is another reason why we First Bookers get “ferklempt” when we think about the creators of Jewtopia. These guys have heart. They are the originators of an ab-fab t-shirt with “READ” printed on it in seven languages, and they are donating a portion of the sales proceeds to First Book. You, too, can look hip and literate. So buy it at Presents for Purpose.

And don’t forget to call your mother.

I am pleased to say that Bryan Fogel and Sam Wolfson’s book tour will bring them to Borders Columbus Circle (212.823.9775) in New York City on 12/13 at 7pm. Come on out and see them. While you are there, you can also donate directly to First Book at any register (and at any Borders store in the nation).

    Thank you,
