Saying “I Do” to Literacy

June 2nd, 2006 by Katie B. · No Comments

Well, it’s that time of year — not simply the beginning of the summer vacation season — but also the spring/summer wedding season. This topic came up recently as I was talking to a friend of mine who is a bridesmaid in a wedding this weekend. She and I were astounded thinking about all that is involved with being a member of a bridal party (not to mention all of the planning and preparation to pull the ceremony and reception off — from the venue, to the dress, to the reception favors). All of that decision-making is enough to make one crazy!

However, what you might not know is that First Book can actually help make your wedding planning a little bit easier. For the last three years, First Book has partnered with the I Do Foundation as another way to help deliver books to children from low-income families. The cool thing about the I Do Foundation is that they provide brides and grooms the opportunity to donate to a number of charity partners, First Book being one, in lieu of a wedding favor or gift registry. First Book provides bookmarks, bookplates and other mementos as favors to wedding guests, symbolizing one new book in the hands of a child in need.

So, if you have friends who are ready to pull their hair out with wedding plans, you can tell them to check out the I Do Foundation and encourage them to say “I do” to literacy!
