In Full Bloom!

Today a few First Bookers took a mid-day adventure, affectionately called “in bloom at noon,” to view the numerous cherry trees that are in peak bloom this week along the Tidal Basin. It was a perfect day to go as the blossoms and the weather were both spectacular!

We walked from the office all the way to the Jefferson Memorial to see Eric Meany, a Washington, DC based singer/songwriter perform at the Tidal Basin stage, just overlooking the basin dotted with paddle-boaters. Eric was described as

“bringing an always incisive and sometimes humorous point of view to his original songs. Accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, he brings the audience into his world, entertains them, enlightens them, and sends them happily on their way.”

I’m not sure if I totally agree with this, but he was rather amusing with some of his song subjects (one was something to the effect of “I’d be happier if you weren’t here” sung a lively, upbeat and folksy tune) - perhaps he’d be better off just sticking to singing other people’s songs!

In any case, we had the added bonus of getting some great people-watching along our way. There were tens of kids, moms corralling kids, the token die-hard city joggers and even a smattering of small dogs running about the Tidal Basin area. We also had the pleasure of over-hearing tourists and their too loud conversations about battleships that they toured 15 years ago. Oh, the joys of Washington in the spring! But all the same, take advantage of the beautiful spring weather over the next few days and take a stroll down to the Tidal Basin - it’s certainly worth it!
